Document Over-Rides

Document Over-Rides

If you have ever gone to open an existing document only to get a message stating that the document is already open, it is not an error. This is COSTAR protecting your data.

COSTAR prevents you from opening more than one instance of a document at any given time so that you do not have the same document with conflicting data entered on it.

Otherwise you could have two people editing the same document, adding different data and the person who closes the document last over-writes the person who saved it previously.

Sometimes these locks are put in place when you have the document open and the connection to the database on the COSTAR Server is lost – even temporarily (such as a network drop-out or a power failure). In any event the process to remove the lock is the same.

a.    Check on the specified computer (PC21 in the example shown) to ensure that the document is NOT open. If it is close it and retry. If it is not open on the specified PC go to the next step.

b.  Double click between the OK and RETRY options. This will cause a new option to appear – Override.

Click on this option.

c.     Read the Warning and click the appropriate option. If you select Continue proceed to the next step.

d.        Complete the Override Checked Out Document form. All items marked with a red * must be completed.

The same Username and Password requested will be the same as you would use to log into COSTAR. If you do not know the Override Password please contact your store manager or owner who will have access through their login.
