To back up COSTAR data, the backup software must be capable of backing up SQL databases and normal Windows folders and files. COSTAR will typically be setup to take a backup snapshot of the database at Day End and store it locally.
Common Questions asked about Backups
Q. Can I take a snapshot outside of doing my day end, or nightly backup?
A. Within COSTAR, click on the Settings menu, and then select ‘Backup Company’. From this screen you can backup (refresh the snapshot) of your database.
Q. Does Microhouse download a copy of my backup for me?
A. No we do not. Microhouse only provides you with how to use selected backup software but it is your responsibility to run the backup, store the external backup and ensure that a backup is run each day.
Q. My COSTAR Backups are taking longer and longer. What can I do to shorten the time taken?
A. COSTAR backups set up correctly include all of your day end reports, financial reports, etc. Many of these reports can be recreated, so, trim the number of report icons, from within COSTAR to the minimum necessary by deleting un-needed report icons. Secondly, you can look at improving the hardware specifications of the computer, either by buying additional RAM (memory), or upgrading your processor (CPU). If the backup processing time is becoming significant it may be worthwhile to investigate alternative backup alternatives (raid disks, tape, or disk image).
There are many third party software packages that are capable of backing up COSTAR.
There may be times when you need to change the path that the backups go to, for example, if the drive letter of a USB memory stick changes. If you are unsure about this please call the National Support Desk on Aust 1800-819-984, NZ 0800-100-913.
