Using SQL Backup & FTP to backup COSTAR

Purpose

To assist in the prevention of data loss due to a server failure, it is HIGHLY recommended that a backup is performed every day. This document will step you through how to setup the backup program and where to save the backup copies.

Installing the SQL Backup software 

  1. Browse to the sqlbackupandftp.com website.
  2. Click on the Download SQLBackupAndFTP icon.
  3. Run the Installer after it has finished downloading.
  4. Click Next
  5. Click I Agree
  6. Click Next
  7. Click Next
  8. Make sure both checkboxes are ticked and then click Finish.
 

 Configuring SQL Backup and FTP 

  1. Double click the SQLBackupAndFTP icon on your desktop to open the program
  2. Select the database(s) you want to have backed up by ticking the appropriate check boxes shown in the image below.
    1. This should be the COSTAR Database (shown as version in the image) and the eCommerce database
    2. The free version only allows two databases to be backed up.

     3.Include the reports in the backup:
                  a. Click on More settings...


                  b. In the Backup folders option click +
                  c. Browse to the ReportHardCopies folder which is normally located in c:\program files (x86\costar\server\reports\ReportHardCopies\

                d. Click OK.
       4. Add backup Destinations by clicking on Store backups in selected destinations
                a. Select Local/Network Folder/NAS
                b. Browse to the folder you want the backup to go to and set the Auto delete (7 days is our recommended setting)

                c. Click on Test to confirm you can save to this location
                d. Click on Save & Close
                e. It is recommended that two backups be done. We suggest you backup to the below locations:
                              i. Local computer - c:\program files (x86)\costar\server\backup\
                              ii. A location on the cloud (e.g. OneDrive)
7. To run the backup, Open the program using the desktop shortcut and then click on the Run Now button.

NotesNote: This backup process will create a separate compressed file for each database and Windows folder specified in the backup settings.
